It would be good if there was english app support for the u.k. users

Which android app are you referring too ?

JohnnyD wrote on 19.08.2017 at 08:49

If you are referring to the German apps for a German account then no, there are no plans at the moment for UK banking apps from Fidor UK, just the current IOS only balance checker.

2FA security

Do you have any plan to provide 2 factor authentication (2FA) for login to accounts.
Please note this should not be by SMS message because that is too easily hacked. Better to use something like Yubi, Authy or Google Authenticator.

I use Symantec Verisign Identity Protection number generator on many site and I would rather use that than SMS mTan codes

mwri wrote on 05.08.2017 at 08:57

If Symantec uses standards such as TOTP, then sure.

We need to adhere to standards and not custom proprietry services or protocols.

mwri wrote on 05.08.2017 at 09:57

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fedorahosted.freeotp&hl=en

This is a great authenticator, open source, free, IETF standards based.

Source code here https://freeotp.github.io/

IETF RFC 6238 for TOTP https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6238

Future standards will be based on https://fidoalliance.org/specifications/overview/

I can't find your banking app on the play store - only German ones:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Fidor%20Bank%20AG&hl=en

Or do these work with UK accounts?

MIROW wrote on 31.07.2017 at 18:44

No they do not work with the UK accounts.

Non-resident customer

Good Morning! I am a non-resident customer and soon after I registered with Fidor Bank and I like to interact and exchange ideas, I should create a better formula of interaction with foreign clients. At first the system would have to send a message to other international numbers as well as the facilitation of opening Of the account because it is a very good bank even if living far away I intend to continue to use in a continuous and future way to register the definitive account as well as make investments

MIROW wrote on 07.07.2017 at 15:31

Sorry but terms of your account require residence in UK. If you are now non-resident you should withdraw your funds and cut up your card. Kindly contact Customer Services to arrange a final statement.

What if somebody are a UK citizen but living in another member state?

MIROW wrote on 03.07.2017 at 10:12

That is still not permitted. Fidor UK account requirements (current account and savings bonds) are based on both UK residency and citizenship of certain countries. If a UK citizen is not living in UK but living abroad they fail to meet the residency requirement.

ajpearce43 wrote on 17.08.2017 at 16:07

Revolut have done this and I've never had the cards accepted anywhere

Savings for non-residents

Should create a portfolio of application for non-residents and also a prepaid card would certainly attract more customers as it would facilitate international business

MIROW wrote on 01.07.2017 at 17:21

costs of running a prepaid card are higher than a debit card and recently one big prepaid card Travelex Supercard shut down as it was not profitable.

With other prepaid cards like WeSwap, Monzo and Revolut available I can't see the point in competing.

Monzo have already said once they issue a debit card they will terminate their prepaid card.

I suggest try WeSwap or Soldo depending if it mainly for travel or for families

MIROW wrote on 02.07.2017 at 19:48

Fidor UK policy is to only provide services to UK residents and not serve the non-resident market. If this will change after Brexit I do not know, but I assume IBHO that it would be less likely

Hot-wallets (covered under financial insurance license)

Will Fidor offer crypto-currency hot-wallet (online wallet) service in the future (and also covered under financial insurance license).

If you do this, you will have beaten the banks to the race.

mwri wrote on 22.06.2017 at 09:03

I am curious to hear if and why you would see this as either a good or bad thing.

Having your crypto "currency" covered under finance insurance is a good thing, you can recoup any lost (depending on fair market value at the time).

It would add "confidence" to holders of the "currency".

I have been having issues receiving SMS from Fidor and it is only Fidor that I have the issue with. I have had many other SMS messages in the 5 days that I have not received a Fidor message. It would be great if Authy, Google Authenticator etc. were options.

RdoubleC wrote on 06.06.2017 at 17:47

Agreed. SMS 2FA is simply not secure and is no more convenient than Authy or Google Authenticator unless you do not have a smart phone. But I'd be very surprised if anyone using an online only bank doesn't have a smart phone.

mwri wrote on 21.06.2017 at 16:18

We need/want the following 2-factor authentication methods.

(in order of least most vulnerable to least vulnerable)

1) TOTP (FreeOTP, Google Authenticator etc) - Time based OTP
2) FIDO U2F (YubiKey etc) - public/private key 2FA
3) FIDO UAF (password-less) - Biometrics 2FA

We are moving away from TOTP to U2F then onto UAF.

Nobody wants SMS or email authentication anymore.

FreeOTP is an open-source app for mobile OTP (source is on Github), TOTP is an IETF standard (RFC 6238)

Nobody should trust any finance or privacy to SMS/Email authentication at all.

It would be great if Fidor intergrated with more online systems, e-commerce and even with PayPal. It would make it more flexible and a greater platform!

Also Stripe (cheaper for merchants than PayPal).
